50 Marathons by 50

Updated: Jan 8, 2021

Our very own Dr. Joesph Lepkowski ran 50 marathons by the age of 50 (plus one month due to logistics) and said, “Words can’t describe how long I’ve waited to cross the finish line on No. 50. When I finally got there, I couldn’t believe it,” he said. “It was quite a journey.” That journey began at age 30 in 1991 when he just decided to “go out and run” a marathon. With limited resources and minimal experience and his only preparation consisting of one 13 mile run, he hit the pavement for that grueling 26.2 miles. During that runners high he got bite by the marathon bug. Throughout his 30s, Dr. Lepkowski continued to run marathons, sometimes he ran for fun but most times he ran in support of charitable initiatives. Along the way Joe set is 50-marathon goal. The year was 2011 and the month was November when Dr. Lepkowski crossed the finish line in Pennsylvania in front of more than 30 of his family members. With one lofty goal met it only made sense to set another; run a marathon in all 50 states. With no time limit on this goal, stayed tuned!
